Munising Madness 2008

0

We went to the Munising area the last weekend in February and had a awesome time. We stayed at the Timber Ridge Lodge and resort ( great place and very friendly people). The highlight of the trip was snowmobiling around Grand Island and seeing the ice formations hanging off the high cliffs. The locals were very helpful telling us the conditions and where to go around the island. We highly recommend going to the Munising area for snowmobiling……

AJ’s Walleye Lodge – Lake Gogebic

0

AJ’s Walleye Lodge in the North Shore of Lake Gogebic in Bergland has two major trump cards when it comes to snowmobiling: the first would be direct access to seven major trails within three miles – no need to ride the same trail every day to get to the good snow and trails; the second is this is where the good snow is found. Lake Superior provides the moisture, while the Porcupine Mountains provide the lift to the moist air and down comes the pretty white snow on our roof. If that’s not enough to win you over, how about 21 units that can comfortably sleep up to 120 guests? Our units are clean, comfortable and every room has a view of the lake. From standard rooms, to kitchenettes, to fireplace suites, to two bedroom units, we have a wonderful mixed bag that will meet (and exceed) most needs. We rent all units by the day, week or month.

In addition to our convenient location right on the North Shore of Lake Gogebic, we also have plenty of safe and convenient trailer parking, a heated shop, 2 rental/repair shops located within 1 mile from the property, 2 gas stations, a grocery store and two restaurants within 1-2 miles from the property. Trail permits are available on site as well as a live bait and tackle shop if you choose to do any ice fishing, and a gift shop in the event you have left anything behind!

Accommodations

The Walleye Lodge has 21 units – all of which have a view of Lake Gogebic. All rooms are very clean, comfortable and 100% smoke free. We offer free WI-FI, cable and and feature daily towel exchange and garbage pickup. Charcoal and gas grills, picnic tables, and a fire pit are available for all guests to enjoy.
Features:

Nine completely furnished housekeeping units are located on the lower lakeside level.

Two deluxe suites, each with two bedrooms and a full sun deck, are among Lake Gogebic’s finest accommodations.

These units offer an unmatched view and are available by the day, week or month.

Our upper roadside level offers an additional seven standard motel units.

At full capacity, Walleye Lodge can accommodate 116 guests.

Grayling – Fay’s Motel Trail Report – Jan. 3

0

Snow and Weather: Keep an eye on the weather.

Trail Report: Greetings Sledders,

It looks like we have at least a shot at keeping the trails intact until Sunday.
The forecast keeps changing slightly in terms of temps and the amount of rain that may fall. If the current forecast holds true then we will likely lose the trails sometime Sunday. I say that with a certain amount of caution as much depends on the amount of Sun we get prior to the low moving in.

Tomorrow is supposed to be partly cloudy and temps around 32. Should we get an all day blast things could go south fast, at least in the snirty spots on the trails.

It also looks like we will retain our off trail snow pack if things shake out as forecast.

TRAILS: Right now the trails are in decent to good shape. We groomed everything out the last few days. The more traveled tight corner sections are going to be snirty in the corners which is always the case. I groomed the Blue Bear Connection and Hanson Hills yesterday then took the new machine for a ride on the Frederic trail and all in all had a good ride.

GROOMING: The schedule is set for the next several days and we’ll just have to make the call to go on a day to day basis depending on what Ma. Nature serves up.
Here are some grooming activity numbers for December that some of you may be interested in reading:
We groomed 19 days.
We are responsible for 86 miles total.
During those 19 days we logged 1444 miles. This was done using Blue the vast majority of the time and required 217 volunteer man hours that were generated by basically 4 drivers.
We averaged 76 miles per day at an alarmingly fast avg. speed of 6.65 miles per hour.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Girls

Ishpeming Area Trail Report – Jan. 2

0

Snow and Weather: Hello All and Happy New Year!

I just wanted to do a quick update since its been a few days.

The last day or 2 we have gotten several inches of snow and it is remaining cold so the trails are in great shape right now. We did not get hit with too many riders this past week and the groomers are out so the trails are in very good riding shape. Now, hopefully the weather will continue to cooperate.
