Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 12/11
According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, Ironwood received the most snow in the U.P. during the recent storm from 10 pm Tuesday thru 7 am Thursday with 29.5″. Our season snowfall to day is around 42″… there’s more in some areas, less in others.
Groomers from the Gogebic Range Trail Authority, Gogebic Area Grooming and Watersmeet are all out working on the trails. Conditions will be “early season” as there are still wet areas(which all the snow is insulating)and the snow is very loose-warmer weekend temps should help in building bases – just want you to know this info so you don’t have any unrealistic expectations.
Keep in mind, although MI trails are open as of December 1st, they may or may not be groomed. WI Trails will open December 14th, snow and weather permitting.

Snow Photos From Gaylord – Ray’s Retreat
1Snow and more snow! Woke up this morning to another 4-5 inches of fresh snow. Snow continued thru the day, at least another 6 inches of new stop. It just doesn’t stop! At least a foot and a half or more of snow.
The Winter Storm Warning is now continued thru Friday evening. Lake Effect Snow is in the forecast day after day.
Gaylord groomers are out. They were out last night, and back at it this morning.
Enjoy getting out of the trails early in the season before the crowds arrive after Christmas. We’d love to have you stay with us at Rays Retreat. Enjoy great hospitality with people who enjoy sledding as much as you. Visit with others in the morning while you enjoy a hot breakfast… find out which trails are in the best condition. Park your sled right outside your room, jump on it and be on the trail within a minute. We are located directly on trail 7, south of Gaylord.
We are also renting Ski Doos this winter.

yardstick, at 5:00 this a.m. we had 21" of fresh snow outside my back
door in Bessemer and it was still coming down,though lightly. Suffice
it to say, we have lots. Both the Gogebic Range Trail Authority and
Gogebic Area Groomers are out-either prepping or grooming —

Over 5 inches of snow overnight in the Western U.P. – Snow guns are
blasting are area resorts and with a little luck grooming of the
